On Friday, September 15th, the Kassel Huskies completed the 2017-18 season’s first official match. In front of their home crowd, the Huskies played against Eislöwen Dresden. Both teams couldn’t use their chances to score and the first third ended in a draw. Right at the beginning of the second third, Patrick Klöpper scored 1-0. The guests, however, kept calm, pushed forward and scored 1-1 after almost 28 minutes played. During the last third, the Huskies presented themselves as the better team and Braden Pimm scored on powerplay 2-1 before he eventually decided the game in favor of the Huskies right before the final buzzer.
On Sunday, September 17th, the Huskies had to prove themselves against current DEL2-vize champion Bietigheim in the season’s first away match. Straight from the start, the Huskies showed plenty of self-esteem and finished the first third with a 1-0 lead trough Braden Pimm – the Canadian forward’s third goal of the season. In the second third, the Huskies widened the lead to 2-0 before the Steelers got one back. 13.2 seconds before the second break, Adriano Carciola scored the Huskies’ third goal. However, Kassel’s advantage melted during the third third when Bietigheim scored twice. The Huskies finally had to give in to the hosting team during overtime.
The Huskies collected four points in two games – WINGAS believes this to be a successful start of the season!
